Commencing in early January 2024 the Electrical Instrumentation Technician apprenticeship opportunities will be located at one of our three refineries (Kwinana, Pinjarra or Wagerup) or our Willowdale Mine site.
As part of this four-year Apprenticeship Program you will be:
- Provided on the job & formalised TAFE training, leading towards a nationally recognised trade certificate.
- Working within the refinery or mine site fixed plant operations on maintenance, installation and fault finding on all types of electrical/electronic and pneumatic equipment.
- Learning the operation of a wide range of instruments and the principles involved in monitoring and controlling variables such as flow level, pressure, density and temperature.
- Discovering how electricity is generated and distributed around the refinery and will learn to understand both the instrument and electrical equipment used for controlling the process of making Alumina.
- Trained in reading and understanding schematic, single line electrical and process instrument drawings.
- Working on a variety of equipment ranging from simple light and power installations to variable speed drives and programmable logic controllers.

About you
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
- A high dedication and focus towards safety.
- A good academic record with a proven interest in power distribution systems.
- Involvement in any related extracurricular activities or have gained relevant knowledge in that field.
- A current, valid Australian ‘Learners’ Drivers Licence or working towards.
To be eligible for an Alcoa Apprenticeship you must have completed year 10 at a minimum with a high pass in Mathematics and English combined with a good attendance record. Additionally, completion of a pre-apprenticeship and work experience relevant to the trade you are applying for will be considered highly desirable.
